From 1863 to 1865, dedicated men from Florida and Alabama fought for the Union with the 1st Florida Cavalry Regiment. Author, blogger, and genealogist Sharon D. Marsh will give us a glimpse of what life was like for the regiment.
The 1st Florida Union Cavalry was stationed at Fort Barrancas in Pensacola and participated in a number of engagements from Marianna, Florida, to Mobile, Alabama. Marsh researched the regiment and its impact on the troops, their families, and their communities for a book that includes information on the men’s lives and their service to the United States of America.
Marsh is a family historian and an avid student of American history, especially the antebellum and Civil War eras. Her family helped settle Florida, with the earliest settler arriving in the territory around 1821. Since retiring from her day job, she spends much of her time reading, researching history and genealogy, and writing books.
